Mom and Boys

Figuring it out one day at a time.

Planning my weekly menu.

I heard that if you go to the grocery store with a plan you spend less money.

And tonight Isaac has the boys for a little while before bed so I can go grocery shopping childless!

Our breakfast is always the same.

Me: homemade egg and cheese on an English muffin

Linc: blueberries, grapes, and peanut butter toast

Bo: boob

And lunches are almost always leftovers or tuna

So dinners are what takes planning, so here is what I am thinking, prepare to be dazzled.

Monday:
BBQ chicken in the crockpot
Green beans

Tuesday:
Spaghetti squash with meat
Broccoli

Wednesday:
Turkey roast
Potatoes and green beans

Thursday:
Cheeseburgers on the grill
Tomato and cucumber salad

Friday:
Dinner out? This is my one childless night. I will either be ordering in, or going to dinner with friends.

Saturday:
Grilled steaks
Asparagus (market)
Potatoes (market)

Sunday:
Tilapia filets
Green beans

Snacks:
Cottage cheese
String cheese
Homemade popcorn

Desserts/Sweet treats:
Cinnamon and brown sugar steal cut oats with fruit
Apples and vanilla yogurt
Mocha protein shake

Eating like kings.

We have been eating healthier here lately.

And I have been cooking/grilling more at home.

Tonight we had tri-tip steak, asparagus fresh from the farmers market, and quinoa w/olive oil and tomatoes.

Linc loved it, and his favorite part…the asparagus.

I don’t know what it is about those spears of green, but he loves them.

He gobbled that up yesterday for lunch.

What a little healthy eater.

Super Food Smoothie

I try to drink at least one of these a day, they taste delicious and I know I get tons of good vitamins that the rest of my diet lacks plus some extra protein.  Great for after a workout or for an energizing breakfast.

Ingredients: (If you put these in the blender/Bullet in this order it blends a little easier)

Scoop of Vanilla Whey Protein (I think vanilla is the best in smoothies but I have also used strawberry or chocolate)

1/4 cup frozen strawberrys

1/4 cup frozen blueberrys

1/4 cup frozen rasberrys

HUGE handful of spinach (the more the better and you can’t taste it at all so don’t worry)

1 Tblsp of ground flaxseed (if you have it around)

1/4 Cup of plain greek yogurt

Blend the ingredients together and POOF, instant health-packed snack!  And it tastes good, seriously good, better than anything you could buy in my opinion.

*** Just a note, I don’t typically measure my ingredients.  This is not that serious.  Eyeball them and pop ’em in.  You can also substitute any of the fruit in and out, but I always add a few blueberries no matter what.  They are just too good for me to skip out on them.

Healthy Finger Foods for Babies

I am on the prowl.  I am certainly not the healthiest eater and I am really not caught up in the organic craze that has hit this country.  Not to say that it may not be better, but I would eat a fruit snack found under the couch from a few days ago.  Stuff like that just doesn’t bother me in the least, so a few pesticides, child’s play 🙂

Anyways, back to the point.

I’m not the healthiest eater, however, I am not a huge fan of feeding my little tater tot a lot of processed foods.  At this point I have full control of what he puts in his mouth (with the exception of what he may find on the floor while I am not looking, earlier today a dirty shoe looked tasty to him so his judgement on what to eat is a little off).

But considering I have all this control over his eating, especially at this age, I want him to eat good stuff.

Stuff that grows from ground or stuff that falls from trees.

That gerber banana vanilla star may be easy and delicious, but what is it really?

I figure if I can’t name the ingredients in it, I really don’t want him eating a whole lot of it.  Everything in moderation of course, but I want better for him most of the time.

So all you experienced super moms out there- What do I feed him???

I make most of his baby food, but he is moving on to finger foods and I just don’t know what to give him.

Here are my healthy-feed-myself foods up to this point.

Bananas

Mandarine Oranges

And Nothing Else

Someone please help me out.  It hurts my heart every time I give that kid a graham cracker.
