Figuring it out one day at a time.

Kind people and a toddler fashionista.

toddler dress clothes

Thanks to a very kind and generous women at work,

Linc is the best dressed toddler in town.

I am always amazed at the kindness of other people.

This last week, a women I work with has given me several bags full of toddler clothes, and a huge trash bag full of shoes.

Nice stuff too.

She bought all of these things for her grand babies who are just a year or so older than Linc and they have out grown them.DSC01092

It is just so nice of her to think of us.

We work on different sides of the building and barely ever even see each other,

Yet she is still so thoughtful and generous to me and my boys.

I can only hope that one day I will be able to return the favor to someone else.

And I am not going to lie.

My little stud muffin looks adorable in his new Sperrys and Polo.

What a little label whore.

Boom.

This is the face of a winner.

girl

And yes, that is a binky in my mouth.

And no, I did not just get back from some rave, adorned with glow sticks and whatever else you may bring to those things.

I also did not just sit down to write this in the middle of a mothering frenzy.

I think I just found it on the couch.

And naturally decided to put it in my mouth an gnaw on it while I wrote this post.

Makes sense to me.

Enough with that.

I am sick of this binky stealing my spotlight.

I’m a winner.

First-Best-Moment-Award-Winner

Apparently I have won the Best Moment Award, which is pretty cool.

I get kinda excited any time I win something in this little blogosphere world.

I wish I was too cool to admit it but I’m not.

This stuff makes me happy.

The cool part is I get to award it someone else.

I just ran across this blog very recently.

I like it because it is real.

No hiding.

Lay it all out there.

In your face.

I award this to…

(in)perfection at its finest

I don’t feel like I am qualified to award anyone anything but it is fun to pass on something good.

Very Inspiring Blogger Award

very-inspiring-blogger-award11

Boom.

So cool! I was nominated for the Very Inspiring Blogger Award by Of Mom and Monsters.  It is very flattering to me that people actually read this stuff.

So thank you, this made my week.

I actually got this the other day during my first week back at work, which was insane,

So I am finally now getting to this, but not because I am not grateful.

Thanks for reading and thanks so much Mom of Monsters.

So, here are the rules of the award:

  3. State 7 things about yourself
  4. Nominated 15 other bloggers for the award
  5. Notify your nominees by linking to their blogs so they get notified by ping-back.

4. My kids are more attractive than yours.

Just kidding.

Strange but true.

5 things you don’t know about me…and probably don’t care to know.

1.  I have slept on the couch ever since Bowen was born.

There are two reasons.

First, my room is really cold.  I am not sure why but it does not get a whole lot of heat, as a result Bowen won’t sleep on his own. (his crib is in my room)

Which leads to the second reason.

I co-sleep with my kiddos.  Bo starts off sleeping on his own but when he wakes up hungry I put him up with me and feed him.  Sometimes he will go back on his own after that but sometimes he will stay and sleep next to me.  For whatever reason I think it is safer to do this on the couch.

I don’t know why.

Maybe because I can’t roll over on the couch.  I don’t know it really doesn’t make sense.

2.  If I had to watch television all day, this is what I would want to watch:

Shahs of Sunset, Teen Mom, Catfish, Real Housewives of Anywhere, Vanderpump Rules, Prison Wives, Lock-Up, Chopped, Worst Cooks in America, Top Chef, Tosh.O, Rediculousness, Biggest Loser

3.  I love my Kindle

My parents gave me a Kindle a few months ago and I am obsessed with it.  My parents bought it but were not using it so they randomly asked if I would like it.

At first I did not really think so but then I thought maybe I could use it for Linc and get some good toddler app’s on it.

Little did I know that I would love it so much.

I am able to read so much more now that I have this.  It is so easy to purchase books (especially now that I can’t get out of the house as easily) and the books are less expensive.

I can use the internet on it.

Do some simple homework assignments.

Work on my blog.

And I have some fun app’s for the boys.

I love it!  It is small and fits in my purse and it is probably one of the best gifts I have received in a long time.

Thank you mom and dad, best gift ever.

4.  I have amazing parents

Here is a few recent examples of their amazingness.

My mom just flew all the way across the country to watch my son so he doesn’t have to go to daycare for a whole other month.  When she visits she cooks, she cleans, she changes diapers, she shovels the driveway, she buys me groceries, and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Seriously amazing.

My dad prays for my babies every day.  He just did my taxes. He supports me and encourages me all the time. He loves me and my boys and I never have to doubt that he would be there for me no matter what stupid things I do in my life.

My parents are awesome.

And if you are not jealous you should, I hit the parent lottery.

Cha-Ching

5.  I care what my kids wear

Probably too much.

My babies would look cute in whatever I dress them in because they are just adorable kids (I’m a little biased),

But I want them to be dressed in style.

I know this is horribly superficial and that it really shouldn’t matter, but it does.

I can’t help it.

Top 10 reasons why I am now “that old person”

op20blogtoonparker

I don’t think most people are aware, but I am currently back in school working towards my master’s degree in ESL (teaching english as a second language).

Apparently I don’t have enough to do.

We were put into groups for one of my classes (these are online courses) and after checking out my group members I was sorely disappointed to be placed with a certain person.

She is very nice, but she is “one of those old people.”

Old people in classes have certain characteristics.

They always sit in front (or post first in the world of online classes)

They always feel the need to be your teacher even though they are actually a student.

They ask way too many questions (and yes, most of them are stupid questions, apparently problem solving and critical thinking require too much independent thinking).

And, they are always brown nosers (which is probably the real reason for all of the stupid questions).

But then it occurred to me,

I’m old.

Am I one of those old people?  Not necessarily by my above definition, but I do possess some of the characteristics.

Which leads me to this: Top 10 reasons why I am now that “old person” in class.

1. When asked to post an introduction and a picture about myself I end up talking more about my children than myself, and of course, my picture is with my kids.

2. I work with one of my professor’s friends.

3. I have had more than one technical issue so far this semester.  (And it was a real technical issue, not one of those technical issues I had in my younger years that was really just me not doing the work and then blaming technology)

4. When explaining said issue to my prof. in an email I may have mentioned something about the baby vomiting on my computer.

5. I sometimes post first.

6. When asked to send a test file I send a picture of my kid.  And then I send a second one because I am sure my group members want to see both of my children.

7.  I attend, and am an active member in video conferences and study sessions.

8. I sometimes work ahead.

9.  The professor knows who I am and could pick me out of a line-up.

10. I don’t have a Facebook page to contact other classmates.

Discount on fish???

images

I’m an idiot.

The other day I was on the phone with Isaac while going through some sort of drive-through for dinner (mom 0f the year), when I asked…

Me:  “Was there some sort of discount on fish this month?  I feel like every place I go is advertising fish, did some fisherman just hit it big and sell a bunch of fish to all these fast food joints?”

Isaac: “Seriously?”

Me: “Yeah, haven’t you noticed?  It’s like fish is the new Whopper.”

Isaac: “No Heidi, the fast food places did not just get a huge discount on fish…it’s for lent.”

Me: “Oh….I am an idiot.”

Yay for me!!!

I don’t know normally like to toot my own horn but I am super excited.

At the end of last school year I applied for a teachers scholarship in order to get my ESOL endorsement.  For those of you not in the education field an endorsement is something that is added to your certification and basically means that I am qualified to teach a different subject area, specifically for me English as a Second Language.

Considering I teach in an urban district with a large population of ESL students, this is a pretty valuable endorsement.  Plus, I will go up on the pay scale.  Plus, these credit hours lead me half-way to receiving my masters.

Anyways…

I found out yesterday I was awarded the scholarship!!!

I am pretty excited.

My schooling will be paid for, what a relief.

Finally Connected

I spent the last 2 weeks completely disconnected from internet and cable.

Be still my heart, I survived.

And surprisingly enough I grew to enjoy the silence.

I am one of those people who always has the television on.  Even if I am not watching it or have completely no interest in what is playing, it is on.

It just was.

So these last two weeks have been particularly interesting for me not having any source of television to fill up the sounds of my home.

And I started to like it.

I read books- I always am a reader but not to the extent of the last few weeks. I read my bible- have not done that in a very long time.  And Lincoln and I played- we always play but it was less distracting without the background noise, almost like it was him and me in our own little world.

It was peaceful.

But now I am reconnected, I am thankful to have the internet again.

So thankful.

But this morning I left the t.v. off.

There is nothing I want to watch, why turn it on.  It seems logical but that never would have happened before.

I don’t know why it seems so odd to me.

And sometimes I still do like the noise.  And I still enjoy watching certain shows, but now, if I am not watching it, I am going to turn it off.

Sometime silence or the sound of your little ones voice is all you need.

I came across this picture today, it is hard to believe he used to be so small…

Color Run!

Tomorrow I get to participate in a little adventure I am really excited about, the Kansas City Color Run!

This is a 5k race in which you get sprayed with colored paint throughout the race course.  It looks like a ton of fun.  This should be a great couple our break from my house fixing up insanity.  I will be sure to post pictures.
